Project definition

Among students, environmental demands are strong. This is a population whose modes of travel have changed a lot. They use bicycles a lot. However, there are few mobile applications to enhance and facilitate the cycling experience. The aim of this project is to propose a tool to facilitate cycling trips by developing the "community" aspect on daily life trips as well as on longer trips. We offer an application linking students wishing to travel by bike.

    Context and target

We live in a society where young people have become aware of the challenges of global warming. Cycling is increasingly present among young citizens for obvious reasons: to do sport for health and to reduce the environmental impact. Moreover, today, exchange and sharing remains a common passion developed by the emergence of social networks in the early 2000s. Our target: Students. On average, students are young citizens between the ages of 18 and 25. They are dynamic and sporty, and need to exercise outside of class. They are subject to academic and success pressure. Students take advantage of their years of study to make new friends who share the same desires as them. Social network applications are therefore very popular among students. Finally, they are comfortable with technology and digital technology. The notion of community is familiar to their way of life.

    Our mind maps

At the beginning of the project, we thought about a specific theme: strengthening the cycling experience for students. We have developed mental maps to help us better understand the different aspects of this theme.

    The wireframe

After developing an idea for a community application, we then developed a prototype of this application. Here is the link : see wireframe

    Mockup and users tests

The prototyping phase gave rise to the development of mockups. We then submitted our mockup to user tests.

    • Development perspectives

Our ambition is to develop a sufficient community to offer a quality service. It would be interesting to develop partnerships with general or specialized sports shops (Lepape store) as well as events such as the Tour de France.

      Offer and features

We offer a community application to link cyclists to share their experiences and exchange about the world of cycling. The user has a profile on which he can follow and exchange with others through a messaging service. A geolocalisation service allows the user to locate and give information about what is around him: places to visit, possible works, etc. Access to specialised content: maintenance, repairs, advice on cycling ...

      Tecnical details

RTLS Our service is based on software that connects users with each other and their positions. Our service also uses APIs to allow the downloading of information (on events for example) that will be displayed regarding routes. We will record in our database the users' routes so that we can compare them during their experiences. Furthermore, this comparison process is always being improved thanks to artificial intelligence. Initially, the first matches are made on the basis of the information the user provided when creating his profile (the type of contacts he is looking for, the sector of activity...). Then, each time a user has shared a route with another and they have actually met, the application asks for feedback on the level of the users. Thanks to this information, the application will gradually learn to match the user with contacts that could be more useful to him. Real time locationg system: The system can track every user with GPS- enabled mobile phone. In this way, we will be able to point out possible disturbances around him as well as suggest alternative routes, for example.

Wheelink can be obtained from the android or IOS interfaces.

      How to use app

The principle of application is quite simple. It corresponds to a social network type application. You just have to connect by creating an identifier. You enter your identity, your age, the model of bike used. Then, when the user is connected, he can add other users using the search engine. He can communicate with them via an instant messaging box. Users can view or share news created by other users. They can consult the risks present on the routes or report them. They can organize a route and share it with other users, or see who shares the same route. Finally, each user can, after sharing an experience, rate (out of 4 stars) the other users. Wheelink allows to reflect the true level of each user to ensure a personalized experience.
